Fun Day at Holy Nativity!

This Sunday, Holy Nativity held a Fun Day for the whole community.  From face painting to axe throwing there was something for everyone!  Throughout the day there were all sorts of fun and games going on.  One of the highlights was the adults wheelbarrow race! When my daughter was sad because she had to leave at the end, she announced in the car ‘I love my party church. I want to do it again.’ It was fantastic to see people…

St Mary’s Community Shop Closure

For 16 years, St Mary’s Community Shop has served the people of Illingworth as a place of sanctuary and will finally close their doors on the 3rd of July.  In 2002 the council gave the keys to a small shop front on Turner Avenue South to the community at St Mary’s Church which later became the Parish of Mixenden and Illingworth.  Pat and Bob Highley with the help of Anne Roberts and Cheryll Earnshaw have volunteered their time each week…

Yvonne’s Ordination and First Eucharist

It has been a wonderful weekend in the life of Holy Nativity as we have celebrated with Yvonne as she was ordained priest. On Saturday at Huddersfield Parish church Yvonne was ordained by Right Reverend Jonathan Gibbs, the bishop of Huddersfield.  It was a wonderful service in which he placed his hands on her head and prayed for her. On Sunday, Yvonne celebrated her first communion service here at Holy Nativity.  People gathered from all around Halifax to celebrate with…

Lunch Club Christmas. #GodWithUs

Holy Nativity’s lunch club had a fantastic Christmas Meal on Tuesday. The morning began with a Christmas communion service with carols. Then the room became a hive of activity as other people began arriving for Christmas dinner with all of the trimmings! To start the festivities, children from Year 1 and 2 at Ash Green came to sing a selection of carols and songs for everyone! Everyone had a fantastic time as the children entertained us with their awesome singing.…

We Are the Diocese of Leeds

Since the formation of the diocese of Leeds over two years ago, there has been a lot of work going on to bring three organisations together.  However, there is a lot of hard work that has been done in the meantime “on the ground”.  The diocese have just released this video giving a brief snapshot of some of the good work and diversity that is being done here in West Yorkshire!

The Big Night Out

Today we went to the Big Night Out at Lightwater Valley with 16 teenagers!  What a great day it was!  Rides and sunshine, a picnic and some great bands! The Big Night Out is the biggest church youth event in the north of England.  Thousands of young people enjoying themselves in the sun and having fun!  Brightline were really good as the evening’s entertainment! Now we’re all tired and back on the coach home!  Another fantastic year!!

The Ascension

Last Sunday it was parade service with 31st Holy Nativity Scouts and we celebrated The Ascension!  Revd Robb sourced environmentally friendly balloons and ribbons and we released them to show Jesus returning to the Godhead.  What glorious weather we had as we went into the church park! We like to have fun at Holy Nativity whilst we worship!

Little Angels Easter Egg Hunt

This morning, Holy Nativity’s Little Angels Toddler Group celebrated Easter with a special event around the church grounds.  Hundreds of eggs were hidden as our toddlers and their parents went hunting for them.  Excited little girls and boys hunted around to find the plastic eggs and then swap them for the much covetted chocolate eggs. Easter is a wonderful time to celebrate!  On Easter Day (Sunday 27th) the day begins with a bonfire in the church park at 8am followed…
