Keep Ringing that Bell!
Dear Friends, Ten years ago today, Ruth and I didn’t really know what to expect for the future. We packed up our lives and our cat came to live in our new house which people referred to as “the vicarage”. Hanging in the air was the fresh smell of paint and new carpet as we awaited the arrival of my friends and family. Then Bishop Tony came and joined us at Holy Nativity to join us with the community by…

We’re putting the heating on all afternoon so that people in the community have somewhere to come and have free tea,…
Holy Nativity and Ash Green Christmas Fair
The clocks have gone back, everything is dark and like all vicars, I have to start thinking about Christmas. One of the questions we were asked was whether there would be a Christmas Fair this year. The last time a Christmas Fair was held in Mixenden was 2019 and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. A few weeks ago I met with Mr Sheppard and we both agreed that we want our community to have…

Maundy Thursday and Good Friday
It has been a really eventful couple of days! Once the traditional foot washing service for Maundy Thursday had concluded, Holy Nativity’s Youth Group kept the overnight vigil with a sleepover. Maundy Thursday is all about remembering the last supper so they began by baking bread for the vigil. Millions of candles were set up on the high altar with the loaf and then we were keeping watch all through the night. Later, a camp fire and toasted marshmallows kept…
Palm Sunday | Our Holy Week Preparations
What a busy week we’ve been having as we prepared for Palm Sunday and Holy Week! Ash Green spent a day looking at how Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. We waved palm branches and palm crosses around whilst shouting hosanna! Then we cut our own palms out of green paper to make leaved that became these fantastic rad banners to decorate Holy Nativity! Of course Holy Nativity’s youth group helped out with the decoration acros the bottom of…
Holy Nativity Lead the Church of England National Online Service.
Today, we had the privilege of leading the national online service for the Church of England. Check it out on the Church of England’s YouTube channel. You will see some familiar faces as some of our Youth Group took part in the service as well as Bailey, Holy Nativity’s intern.
Fun and Games @ Sparks
So much fun to be had and so little time to have it! Holy Nativity was filled with the chaos of thirty 5-11 year olds for the latest of our Sparks Holiday Fundays! It is always fantastic to have so many kids enjoying themselves during the holidays. If you’re wondering what they were all painting, they are fridge magnets! As always, none of this would be possible without the support of all of the people who volunteer their time and…
Youth Group @ Galactic Golf!
Yesterday Holy Nativity’s Youth Group got into the minibus and headed down to Galactic Golf for some half term fun! 18 holes of zany fun with 15 youngsters? What could go wrong? After we had made it to the end of the course, we headed down to the seating to total up the scores! Three winners, three prizes and a lot of sharing. Then we all had pizza, hotdogs, chicken nuggets and chips! Of course there was a birthday to…
Bake Sale for #TeamAshGreen
Last Wednesday we hosted a bake sale for Ash Green School. Following the fire, lots of parents of children at the school wanted to do something to help. They decided to fill Holy Nativity with the smell of freshly baked cake! From there, everything snowballed with the addition of a tombola and raffle! All proceeds are going to school via the Community Foundation appeal. Many local businesses generously donated prizes enabling us to put on what became a massive community…
